Representatives Charlie Gonzalez (D-TX) and Mike Rogers (R-MI) are circulating a “Dear Colleague” letter to members of the House of Representatives, urging their colleagues to join them in signing a letter to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. The letter expresses deep concern about the proposed cuts to oncology in the Medicare fee schedule.

ASCO has published its Cost of Cancer Care Guidance Statement in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. ASCO’s Cost of Care Task Force developed this statement to raise awareness in the oncology community about the many factors at work that are driving the increasing costs of cancer care.

CMS released its proposed physician fee schedule for 2010, which includes a 6 percent cut in Medicare payments for medical oncology services. ASCO recognizes that Oncology practices cannot sustain further cuts and is moving quickly to counter CMS' proposal.
